From an email to St Matthew's Primary School.
| I would like to ask your help with an issue that potentially affects the wellbeing of all of your staff and students. Rare is the walk to school during which my sons and I don’t encounter dog mess several times – and we can’t be the only ones who sometimes see it too late. It is likely that dog mess is trodden through your premises frequently. Luton Borough Council has a Web page (link given below) that says contact with dog excrement can lead to blindness due to an infection called Toxocara Canis. It also allows members of the public to report instances of dog fouling. Would you please consider passing this information to all parents? Dog owners can be fined £1000, so reporting the problem might be the first step towards ending it. (The fact that the problem is concentrated in such a small area suggests a very small number of repeat culprits, rather than random strays.) You might also be interested in getting some free posters and stickers from the Keep Britain Tidy website. |
